چکیده

Image compression methods using fractals has been widely because of its advantages of high compression ratio and the simplicity of decompression, which is particularly suited to the situation of one encoding and many decodings. Fractal theory studies self-similarity in objects. At the beginning of the 1980s, it was used to simulate natural scenes in computer graphics. The self-similarity used in fractal theory is known as an iterated functional system (IFS), and was first proposed by Hutchinson in 1981 [1]. Later, Barnsley and colleagues [2, 3] used IFS to simulate natural scenes, such as clouds, trees, and leaves, and implemented the concept using computer programs. Subsequently, fractal image compression, in which a complete image is compressed using IFS, was developed. The first fractal image compression system was described by Jacquin [4] in 1989. From the early 1990s to the mid-1990s, studies of fractal image compression focused on different partition methods, including square, triangular, and rectangular partition, to improve the qualities of decompressed images, and on classifications of range blocks and domain blocks to reduce the run times of compression algorithms [5]. Recently, researchers have focused on two aspects of fractal image compression: fractal image compression for still images, concentrating on the hybrid combination of fractal compression methods and other compression methods, and parallel or distributed algorithms for

Difference based Non-Linear Fractals using IFS

Fractals are self-similar images. There are many techniques for generating fractals. IFS are one of them. IFS use a set of linear transformations for generation of fractals. We propose a method of modifying IFS such that non-linear transformations can be used for generating pleasant looking fractals. We also show a technique which ensures convergence of the fractal Images. Non-linear fractals h...

Pavement Distress Images Using Fractals

The vast amount of data generated by automated surface distress evaluation equipment far exceeds the storage capabilities of current digital data storage systems. A study using fractals is being carried out to alleviate the data storage problem, since fractal image compression offers the largest compression ratio of the available image compression algorithms. This paper discusses the use of fra...

Image and Video Indexing in the Compressed Domain: A Critical Review

Image and video indexing techniques are crucial in multimedia applications. A number of the indexing techniques that operate in the pixel domain have been reported in the literature. The advent of compression standards has led to the proliferation of indexing techniques in the compressed domain. In this paper, we present a critical review of the compressed domain indexing techniques proposed in...

There are numerous image and video coding and compression methods available nowadays. Images can be interpreted in several ways by decomposition into basic functions: strokes [8,9], fractals [10], etc. Each of these is natural in some sense. The idea behind paintbrush transformation techniques was to transform an image so that it gives the sensation of a painting, the painting process being a s...

Generation of 3D Fractal Images for Mandelbrot and Julia Sets

Fractals provide an innovative method for generating 3D images of real-world objects by using computational modelling algorithms based on the imperatives of self-similarity, scale invariance, and dimensionality. Images such as coastlines, terrains, cloud mountains, and most interestingly, random shapes composed of curves, sets of curves, etc. present a multivaried spectrum of fractals usage in ...
